Mukteshwar is a town and tourist destination in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand, India. It sits high in the Kumaon Hills at an altitude of 2286 meters (7500 feet), 51 km from Nainital, 72 km from Haldwani, and 343 km from Delhi.

Mukteshwar is a pleasing destination situated at an elevation of 2,285 mts above sea level in Nainital district of Uttarakhand state. Mukteshwar got its name from a 350 year old temple Mukteshwer Dham whose residing deity is Lord Shiva.

The top of the mountain on which Mukteshwar Temple stands offers astonishing and marvellous views of the imposing Himalayan range.

Where is Bhalu Gaad Waterfall ?

Bhalu Gaad Waterfall near Mukteshwar, Uttarakhand . The Bhalu Gaad fall is a 60 feet high fall from the undiscovered source. It is a mixture of horseshoe and plunge shaped waterfall. The water flows continuously throughout the year maintaining contact with the rock bed before turning to Plunge at the bottom. Indeed, the waterfall completely turns to plunge shaped when the water flow increases during the rainy season. Being recently discovered it is cleaner & less touristy as compared to other waterfalls of Uttarakhand.

How to Reach Mukteshwar from Delhi ?

Delhi to Mukteshwar is 8 h 36 min (383.5 km) via NH9

Mukteshwar is not directly connect with any bus service from Delhi. So first you need to look out for the Haldwani which is well connected with Roadways and Railway. You may choose Uttrakhand Parivahan buses which runs each our from Delhi and there are few buses in night as well for Haldwani and Kathgodam. On this route few trains run, that is why road route is recommended in case you don’t find ticket. From Haldwani there are 2 buses (private) which head to Mukteshwar, I am not sure about timing, you may confirm it from locals. Other options are to board in a jeep which runs from behind of the bus stand of Haldwani. The jeep charges 300 per person and the bus will charge you Rs 100. If you are staying in Neonatal or Bhimtaal, buses can be found from there also.

Other way to reach Mukteshwar 

By Air
Nearest airport from Mukteshwar is Pantnagar Airport, at a distance of 94 km. This airport is connected to Delhi with four flights a week. Getting a taxi is not a problem from Pantnagar Airport.

By Road
There are frequent bus services that connect Mukteshwar to other parts of Northern India. You have a choice between public and private bus services; you can also hire a taxi.

By Railway
Kathgodam Railway Station is the nearest railway station from Mukteshwar. This railway station is connected to different towns and cities across the country like Lucknow, Kolkata and Delhi. You can easily get a taxi or bus from Kathgodham Railway Station to reach Mukteshwar.

Chauli Ki Jali also known as Chauthi Jali is a visitor’s attraction located behind the cliff of Mukteshwar temple. It is located at a distance of 250 metres from the Mukteshwar temple. ‘Chauli’ means rock and ‘Jali’ means hole.

3. Indian Veterinary Research Institute

The history of foundation of the mother campus of Indian Veterinary Research Institute at Mukteswar can be traced from the recommendations of Col. J.H.B. Hallen, who was appointed as the Chairman of the Indian Cattle Plague Commission to focus attention on livestock conservation since the animal diseases were rampant and breeding operations were generally unsuccessful. This commission recommended the establishment of Veterinary Research Laboratory in India in 1885 with a view to undertake a geographical survey of the major contagions with which field workers in this country have to contend and to discover prophylactic measures for the various diseases disclosed by the survey. The foundation stone of research laboratory was laid by the Governor of Bombay on 9th December, 1889 at Pune on 5.5 acres of land adjoining the College of Science.
